happynote sadnote

Hello,

On a happy note, I've finally begun setting up my handmade crafts Shop-blog with some items for sale and such. Take a look, yes?
I've also received my exam results and it looks like I'm all set to attend Uni next autumn. Quite relieved about that.

On a sad note; my lovely bird escaped his cage by accident overnight, and I can't find him anywhere :(
Let me know if you happen to see a pretty grey and white cockatiel flying around somewhere.

Bye now.

jellybean rainbow

Hilo world,
I'm finding it difficult to set my focus onto anything big lately, there's so much going on and yet things seem sort of empty.
But since I can't concentrate on larger paintings I've been creating some little scribbles with my marker pens in the meantime.
Oh, I've also enrolled into a portrait painting class which starts in a week or so, hopefully it will jog my muse into action at long last.

Enjoy the drawings; now I'm off to enjoy my summer days some more.
Bye!

itsy bitsy things

Hello pretty people,
Sorry about my super long absence but now it is summer so I've been out and about a lot making my feet crack by walking barefoot on hot rock and dehydrating my skin with salt and sun. This pleases me.

Today I drew two little pictures, I hope you like them; they are only worth as much as the reception they get.
But it doesn't matter really, because they were fun to make and I think I'll be pinning them to my wardrobe later.

I've also made a crazy amount of bracelets in the past couple of days, and I'm now experimenting with earrings.
Perhaps these will be for sale soon.

I'm totally in the mood to write something, maybe a poem, or something resembling one. But I should go buy my bunny some food instead, because there's no more left and he's probably rather hungry.

So bye now!

roots, history and rum

Hello world,

I'm currently trying to catch up on my history of art studying for my exam on Friday...But been at it too long so I guess I can afford to use up some time on here :)

It's so frustrating that I'm all inspired to paint something I have in mind right now! Well, it wouldn't be frustrating if I actually had the time to do it. But I'm trying to be responsible about this exam so I suppose...It wouldn't be the wisest thing to ignore my books and start working on something unrelated. I guess I'll sketch it up quickly and then get started on it next week.

I've been listening to way too much roots reggae these past few days. I think it's melting my brain. Look up Bob Marley's album, 'Burnin'', if you're into that kind of thing. It's one of my favourite ones.

Anyway, I'd have liked to make up a more creative post but haven't got the chance. So here's a quick something I wrote a while ago for you to read, for now.

---

of sugar and rum

They made love in a construction site that evening.

Walking up the hill home, arms linked, a little lightheaded from the cocktails which still left a lingering zing on their tongues.

Red, hers had been. Red with strawberry and laced with rum. She had sipped it through a black straw, and then gingerly licked some of the sugar crystals encrusting the rim of the tall glass, even though she knew she wasn’t meant to. He’d found that funny, and told her so.

And then the road was narrow, and it was cold. She felt him lean in and kiss her hair as they walked, on the crown of her head. Looking up at him she smiled, returned the kiss, and then they were up against the wall locked together.

His hands under her shirt gripped at her back, between her shoulder blades and down her spine. She shivered pleasantly at the touch, but whispered close to his ear Careful or my bra will come undone. It already has he said. And then she drew away and looked at him, and he shrugged, a slight grin tugging at the corners of his mouth.

She was walking, up the hill, brisk, and turned a corner. He called after her, and looking back round the corner she simply said To fix the bra, follow if you want to.

He rounded the corner just in time to see her ducking under the scaffolding of a construction site, and then they were together there, standing in dust, screened from the road by the green netting which covered the facade of the scaffolding.

Without a word she was pulling her top over her head, and he turned away awkwardly as her breasts were half exposed. I don’t care; she whispered forcefully, and her turned to face her again and watched as she arranged the bra and fumbled with the clasp behind her back. Fuck, it’s twisted. And then she unclipped it again and took it straight off in frustration.

A moment later and they were leant on the scaffolding poles, bodies pressed against each other and ears ringing. Her bra still hung from her fingers, and her bare torso was textured with goose bumps. Partly from the cold and partly from the rush.

***

Later, reading what she had written, it was too personal, too intrusive, so she tore it up and threw the pieces away.

The next morning she looked at herself naked in the bathroom mirror. Half expecting there to be something different to the usual in her reflection. But nothing had changed.

Well, there you go. Hope it appeals to someone. Tell me if you don't like it too!

Back to the books now.

photos are fun

And we have photos! Here are some of my favourite ones, all nicely scanned and captioned.

Sorry, charmaine olivia, I just couldn't resist trying your style out for that last drawing! Guilty of over-loving the way you draw hair.
Bye now funny people.

going analogue?

I bought this rather cute disposable camera a couple of weeks ago from a kiosk just outside Valletta! Had this idea that it might be fun to mess around with it, I bet hardly anyone's taken an analogue photo in ages huh?

The camera quickly filled up, so today I walked to the stationer's (I got drizzled on along the way!) and now I have to wait till Tuesday to pick up my developed snapshots. It's a vaguely exciting prospect! Although, most of the pictures will probably be badly exposed or super blurry. But I don't mind!

Wish I could have posted up a nicer photo of the camera but my dad's SLR (which is what I usually borrow) is broken and I had to use my silly webcam. That and I couldn't resist adding some cheesy lens-flare effects. Don't mind me, please.

I'll post up some of the developed photos come Tuesday!
In the meantime, click the link to have a look at this person's idea: stranger photos have happened! I think it's pretty awesome, in a random way. Don't you?

Alright, back to the books.

Bye now!

lilies + puppets

Has anyone watched Lili? It's a pretty wonderful little film.
I have it on video tape from when I was really small, and used to watch it over and over and sing along and cry sometimes. Yesterday I remembered it but found out that my video player is damaged so I have to wait till it's repaired before I can watch it again!

But in the meantime, just to bring back some memories;

The super lovely Leslie Caron as Lili, and the beautiful Mel Ferrer as Paul, the puppeteer. And the puppets, of course!

I really wanted to find this on DVD to buy...But I don't think they ever released it in that format! Looks like it's a relatively unknown film - but it shouldn't be! Please let me know if you find somewhere to buy or download it, the recording I've got is such low quality.

Hi-lo, little ducks.

birdy-birds!

Upgrading my blog a little! Look on the right hand side ---->
I'm so excited about the fun swallow birds I drew to make buttons. Finally figured out how to make them work as links. Try clicking!
Should take you to a blog parallel to this one which I'm planning on using to showcase and sell some of my art and crafts. I'll keep posting any updates re that.

Incase you wondered, my fascination with swallows stems from Ted Hughes' poetry. I read this one poem years and years ago and it's remained ingrained in my mind ever since. Not sure why.
Maybe you might like it!

Here; 'Work and Play', Ted Hughes ... Enjoy it, perhaps!

I'll be attempting sleep soon;
Goodnight!

tea + jeans

Forgive me for the two posts in one day. I'm meant to be studying but instead I've spent all morning running around my room in jeans a bra and red high heeled shoes singing and lying about and dancing and drinking mug after mug of mint tea and listening to jazz and nouvelle vague and painting my nails and being well, generally useless.

But here is a little poem thing I wrote a while ago. (Though I'm not sure it's a poem at all).
---

the rogue star

The wild child runs barefoot and free and dances for the breeze.
No-one will notice.

The sticky sluice beckons.

Oh, summer.
salt caked sun baked skin
blistered lips
chapped feet
steaming concrete
haze
haze
haze

And I'll lie on the rocks,
saline-smooth and smouldering in the sun.
I'll lie; singed skin to ground, sipping pale rust and letting its electric flood my chest as I drink in the crush of summer's static sky.

Overnight,
the chocolate melted.

---

I really want summer to arrive properly. (This is not part of the poem).
Bye bye now!

scribbles + apples

The apple of my eye?

Isn't she just the sweetest little awkward thing? 'Specially at the end.

I think I'll be posting up some of my scribbles later...I'll think about it.
Bye bye for now, flowers.

flowers in my hair

Here's a pretty song just for you.

Now I really must get back to my poetry notes.
Adios Duckies.

oh my gosh

Yes, Oh My Gosh.

Isn't this just the most disgustingly beautiful thing you've ever seen?

And this is coming from Miss. Slug-phobia.
Watch it till the end, go on!

In other news, I bought a pretty disposable camera. I'll show you some other time.
Stay safe!

rabbits and me

A painting I finished recently. Oh, oil paints, I did miss you.

Hope you enjoy it, duckies. And don't forget to give love to the artist of the original photo. Follow your noses (or the link, your choice).

Tea-time, I think!

where it began

I suppose I should start from the very beginning, since this is my first post.
This is me. 17 or so years ago. Chubby little ducky.

Take care of yourselves now, lovelies.
